John Lennon: The New York City Years

This temporary exhibit opened from May through December 2009 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: NYC Annex in the museum’s 2,500-square-foot changing gallery. Working with John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, and the curators at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the exhibition tells the story of the famous Beatles musician and his life and work in New York City. It spans the period from September 1971 until his tragic shooting in December 1980. The exhibition features four media presentations that contain performance footage, music videos, interviews, and home movies. Artifacts include hand-written lyrics, drawings, collages, clothing, and musical instruments. Each visitor receives an audio guide that plays music and interviews, including a reminiscence by Yoko Ono that concludes the exhibition. Completed at Ralph Appelbaum Associates.
